What’s The Difference Between Exit and Bounce Rates In Google Analytics?

Google Analytics-What’s The Difference Between Exit and Bounce Rates?

As we already know, Google Analytics is a helpful tool that allows us to determine how well our website is performing By setting specific goals, Analytics is able to track things like page views, conversion rates, and sales.

Google Analytics also has the ability to track both exit rates and bounce rates. So what is the difference between the two?

Exit rate is the percentage of visitors who leave your website from a specific page. This has to be beyond the landing or home page, and every page on your website has its own exit rate.

Bounce rate is the percentage of users who leave your website from the landing page itself. This means that the visor has not navigated your site beyond the page they were originally led to.

Bounce rate isn’t good for any website; whether or not it was the home page or another page they have been directed to, visitors should optimally want to continue exploring your website beyond that page. This often can be improved by featuring content related to that page.

Exit rates can be either positive or negative. For example, people may be driven to an online news publication to read a specific article. They find the page they need, read the article, and then leave. This is not necessarily a negative.

However, in the case of websites that need to generate sales, it is important to try and minimise exit rates as much as possible. For example, with Amazon.com, users are fed related content that links them from one page to another, ideally creating a conversion funnel, more time on the site, and eventually, a sale.
