The Challenge

LaterStory is an education and content platform that needed to build organic visibility to reach its target audience. As a content-first business, their challenge was ensuring the valuable content they created was actually discoverable through search — great content is only impactful if people can find it. This campaign was managed by SEO Melbourne, Melbourne's specialist SEO agency.

They needed an SEO strategy that amplified their existing content while guiding the creation of new content designed for search discovery.

A content platform lives or dies on whether the people it was written for can find it. LaterStory is an education and content platform with a library of existing material and a steady publishing programme, and its audience discovers content through search rather than through a brand they already know.

That makes it a different problem from a service business. There is no single set of commercial keywords to win; the job is to make a growing body of content discoverable, and to steer new content towards the questions people are already asking.

Organic user acquisition was low and the organic channel was underperforming relative to the quality of the content. Existing pieces were not structured for search, with titles, descriptions and headings that did not signal what each piece answered, and new content was being planned around audience interest alone without reference to search demand. Return visits were limited because there was little to pull a reader from one piece to the next.

The platform needed a strategy that amplified what already existed while guiding what came next.

02
Our Approach

We audited and optimised the existing content for search visibility, improving titles, meta descriptions, heading structures and internal linking so that search engines could understand and rank each piece and readers could move between related pieces. An SEO-informed content calendar was then developed, balancing the audience's interests with search demand data so that new content served readers and search engines at the same time.

The technical foundation underneath was brought up to standard: site speed, mobile optimisation and schema markup, the basics that ensure good content can be crawled and indexed.

01

Content Optimisation

Audited and optimised existing content for search visibility — improving titles, meta descriptions, heading structures, and internal linking to help search engines understand and rank the content.

02

Content Calendar

Developed an SEO-informed content calendar that balanced audience interests with search demand data, ensuring new content served both readers and search algorithms.

03

Technical Foundation

Implemented the technical SEO basics — site speed, mobile optimisation, schema markup — that ensure great content can be properly crawled and indexed.

The Results

The content-first SEO approach delivered 2.1× user growth and 1.8× pageview increases as optimised content reached the audiences searching for it. Engagement metrics improved alongside traffic — visitors were spending more time and viewing more pages per session.

Organic search evolved from an underperforming channel to the primary traffic driver, proving that great content combined with smart SEO creates sustainable growth.

Unique users grew 2.1× and pageviews grew 1.8× as optimised content reached the audiences searching for it. Engagement improved alongside traffic, with visitors spending more time and viewing more pages per session, and organic search moved from an underperforming channel to the platform's primary traffic driver.

Pageviews growing more slowly than users, with engagement rising, indicates a broader audience arriving and then reading more per visit, which is the pattern a content calendar built on search demand should produce.

04
What This Means for a Business Like Yours

For an education or publishing platform, the LaterStory campaign is the case for auditing before creating: a library of good content is an asset that search engines cannot read until its titles, headings and links say what each piece is for. Only then does a demand-led calendar pay off.

The next step for a platform like this is to keep the calendar tied to search data as the audience's questions change, and to keep the internal linking current so that every new piece strengthens the pieces already ranking.
