The Challenge

Drymaster Carpet Cleaning provides carpet, rug, upholstery, and mattress cleaning services across Melbourne. While they served a wide geographic area, their website had no location-specific content — meaning they were invisible for the suburb-level searches that drive service bookings. This campaign was managed by SEO Melbourne, Melbourne's specialist SEO agency.

In the carpet cleaning industry, customers search for services near their location. Without suburb-specific pages, Drymaster was losing jobs to competitors who had better local visibility.

Carpet cleaning is booked by suburb. A customer searches for a cleaner near them, in their own suburb's name, and expects the page they land on to confirm the service covers their area. Drymaster provides carpet, rug, upholstery and mattress cleaning across Melbourne, which is a wide service area to be invisible in.

Without suburb-specific pages, a Melbourne-wide service business is only ever found by the minority of customers who search without a location. Everyone else lands on a competitor who has taken the trouble to name their suburb.

Drymaster had no location-specific content for its service areas, so suburb searches went elsewhere. The pages it did have were generic, and generic pages receiving location-specific visitors produce exactly what we saw: a high bounce rate, because the visitor could not see that their area was covered and left to check the next result.

The organic reach across Melbourne was limited as a direct consequence. The business was losing jobs to competitors with better local visibility, not better cleaning.

Our Approach

The location page strategy came first. We created 16 new suburb-specific URLs targeting Drymaster's most popular service areas, each with curated keywords, unique content and local relevance signals rather than a template with the suburb name swapped in. A dynamic blog strategy ran alongside, embedding campaign keywords into fresh content so that the site had a steady feed of new organic entry points.

On-page optimisation tied the new and existing pages together: metadata, headings and internal linking were reworked across the site so that the suburb pages, the service pages and the blog reinforced each other for local cleaning terms.

The Results

The location-based strategy expanded Drymaster's organic footprint across Melbourne significantly. New users grew 1.6× as the 16 suburb-specific pages captured local search demand that was previously going to competitors.

The bounce rate was cut in half, showing that location-targeted visitors found exactly the service information they needed for their area.

New users grew 1.6× as the 16 suburb pages captured local search demand that had previously gone to competitors, and the bounce rate was cut in half. The Owner's description of the outcome is calls arriving from areas across Melbourne the business had never had visibility in before.

The bounce-rate figure is the confirmation that the pages were doing their job: a location-targeted visitor was finding the service information for their area and staying, rather than checking and leaving.

04
What This Means for a Business Like Yours

For a cleaning or home-services business covering a whole city, the Drymaster campaign is the argument for suburb pages done properly: unique content and local signals on each, not a single template multiplied. Sixteen well-built pages changed the reach of the business.

The next step for a business like this is to add suburb pages for the next ring of service areas and to keep the blog feeding keywords into the site, so that reach keeps growing without waiting for a second campaign.

There is a broader lesson in the bounce-rate figure too. Search engines read engagement, and a visitor who lands on a page about their own suburb and stays is a signal that reinforces the ranking that brought them. Location pages that are genuinely written for the area do two jobs at once: they win the search and they keep the visitor, and the second job is what makes the first one durable.

★★★★★

The suburb-specific pages were a game changer. We're now getting calls from areas across Melbourne that we never had visibility in before.
